I thought I would drop you an e-mail to give you some very positive feedback. I was beginning to have a terrible soot problem on my transom and cockpit area of my 47' bayliner pilothouse with 315 hp Cummins diesels. I tried cleaning air filters and even had a mechanic sea trial the boat. His conclusion was that I had just gotten some bad fuel and to add a octane booster additive at each fill up. That helped some, but if I didn't add the booster, the soot returned. I read the engine manual and tried every troubleshooting item I could including cleaning the after-coolers.
Then I went to the Annapolis boat show in Oct. '00, and came upon your booth. I listened to the sales reps and learned a lot about the nature of diesel fuel. Still, I felt like I went out on a limb a little spending a few hundred dollars on the 500 series Algae-X® units. My soot problem is non- existent now and I have filled up twice since then.
The 47' bayliners always have had a good reputation for fuel efficiency, my old numbers being about burning 18-20 gal/hr. Since Algae-X®, my first fill up, I burned 15 gal/hr and the second was 14.4 gal/hr. That is 16.7% and 20% increase in fuel efficiency respectively. That's running my engines at 90% of maximum RPM.
Needless to say, at that rate, they will pay for themselves not even considering the hassle of cleaning soot off the transom!!
