In March 2009 we installed LG-X 3000 units on our Ro-Pax ferry MV Sealion 2000 which runs 3512 Caterpillar main engines. The stretch of water we operate in can vary from the magnificent to quite harsh and as such can present difficulties in obtaining reliable fuel readings with the load conditions changing constantly.
Over a 12 month period since installation, we have realized a 3.5% reduction in fuel usage which, when fitted on our other ferry, will result in using around 50000 litres of fuel less per year.
Before installation we had a fungi microbe present in one of the fuel tanks producing a sludge byproduct and reducing our primary filter change to 500 hrs. After the initial tank clean and ongoing utilization of the LG-X units, this fungus has not reappeared; the fuel appearance has remained clear and bright in the filter
bowl and the filter change is back to 1000 hours. This was a bonus (both monetary and logistically) not anticipated and along with the increase in fuel economy will return a saving of over $50000 a year. We can not put a cost on other hidden savings such as emissions associated with burning less fuel and engine component wear, as we havn’t yet had to complete any major maintenance.
I would like to thank you for the chance to use your product and also to change a few of our more skeptical minds into believers.
